kung-food and the 80’s tiki bar on cass
michael loncar

ahh in those days, shrimp chips used to fall like leaves into the empress chicken

                               like an autumn landscape
and the mouthwatering but inappropriately named beef gang bang (with bamboo
shoots)
was plenty of bang for your beef buck

save the oil squeezed out of the eggrolls and u could fry eggs for days
or run a ‘78 straight-6 yellow ltd for a week (that is, before the unfortunate
car wash fire debacle took that ltd from us—straight-6 and all
                            (ahh don't be

             sad)

take a deep breath
and take in the odorous fragrance of mrs. lu’s new perm
like a field of aromatic hot and sour poppies rotting in the sun—take it in
while you’re taking out    and keep it with u

and shall we now drift over, and why not, to that old tiki bar on cass??

which i remember as shot with the obligatory wide-as-woodward-is-wide-angle
lens
distorting the hell out of everything if you wanna get the feeling right
kill all the lights (except the ghoulish lucky red ones) and add the jukebox
from the carnival bar (if we can get it) yes, lets sneak in there

                                                       (if we can get in)

                         so we can linger there
    longer
