Greetings Persons of Quality,
Here is the second edition of Spoke. Its focus—winter. Fittingly, during this
past season we were snowed in, and hence your mailer is slightly behind
schedule. Then again, if you think about it, March is totally more winter than
spring, and some of our worst memories of winter occur in March. Therefore, we
believe it totally appropriate that the Spoke issue of winter arrive
in—yes—March.
We are super excited this issue to have
some new names—people who aren't simply our friends and family—as contributors.
That said, we cannot underestimate the importance of our friends or family in
making Spoke. We literally could not exist without the illustrations,
assistance, and creative energies of Kristen Kaniewski—which is why we are
unbearably excited to properly name her as Art Director and tri-editor type
person. Yay Kristen! We also need to thank Dave Lawson; without his musical
connections and assistance, we would be less soundful. Without the emotional
support of Doug Coombe and our mothers, we wouldn't even exist. We hope you
enjoy the fruits of our collective labors (we'd like that to sound dirty, except
that we mentioned our mothers so that's kinda weird), and that you begin
salivating—literally—over the next issue. The topic? Oh yeah, that'd be CAKE.
Yes, cake. Start working on your own piece and send it to us via:
submissions@spokeisneat.org.
For the first time we will be properly selling issues of Spoke online. If your
friends and family are interested and want to purchase their very own copy of
Spoke, direct them here so that they can give us their money in exchange for
life-changing-ness (that is a word). Just like a professional publication!
Yours, etc.
Annette & Elizabeth & Kristen
