Untitled
Elisa Noeske

i walk out the door
fingers freezing, unhappy
at the time and
the sun just starting to shine
i see nothing more than
the pavement under my feet
until i look at the distance:
there in the horizon is
a small gas station
it's one ive seen many times
and though it seems familiar
i realize ive never really looked
or seen it before.
this simple image
reminds me of how easy
a new life can be.
in that cold winter moment,
imagining the cars filling up,
i am at ease
